Habitat for
Humanity International is a nonprofit worldwide ecumenical Christian
organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. HFHI was
established in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. By September of 2000,
HFHI had built the 100,000th house.
Our affiliate
has constructed thirteen homes. Two of the homes were built to be
completely handicap accessible for partnering family members with
severe disabilities. Thus far, we have built one home each year
from 1995 through 1998. In 1999 and 2000, we built two homes each
year. In 2002, we completed three homes within our Affiliate service
area. 2003 will celebrate the completion of two homes bringing the
total to thirteen.
In 2004 we
will be celebrating our 10th anniversary as we build in Willow River
and Mora. Habitat homes are sold to those in need at no profit,
through no-interest loans.
We operate
through our Volunteer Board of Directors, Volunteer Committees,
and Executive Director. The committees are: Family Selection, Site
Selection, Building, Family Support, Church Relations, Fund Raising/Public
Relations and Volunteer Recruitment.
